Today is a special holiday in China. It's called the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节).
Bet you didn't know that.
On this day, people eat a traditional food called a mooncake, because the holiday always falls on the full moon. Mooncakes are round, dense cakes filled with anything from red beans to coconut. They're a pretty big deal here. Everyone gives them to everyone else, and they are for sale literally wherever you go. Places like Dairy Queen and Häagen-Dazs even sell mooncakes made of ice cream. (not a bad idea.) Below are some mooncakes that I was given for the holiday.
After experiencing 4 of these holidays, I still enjoy taking pictures of mooncakes more than I like eating them. :)
